उत्तररामचरितम् (तमिऴ्-भाषायाम्)
Uttararāmacarita (with an explanation in Tamil)
Uttararāmacaritam is one of the most prominent plays of Sanskrit literature. The play is authored by Bhavabhūti and it contains seven acts in it. The play falls under nāṭaka category.
As the title suggests, the play is based on the life of Rāma after his coronation as the king of Ayodhyā. The plot of the play is an extract from the Uttarakāṇḍa of Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa. The play stands unique as it carries beautiful modifications and dramatic improvisations in the plot, for the sake of Rasa. The play predominantly portrays the Karuṇa rasa. The Rasa here is elevated by revealing the inherant emotions of the charactors of Rāma and Sītā in varous events throughout the play. The seperation and re-union of Rāma and Sītā are the key events of the play which are dealt in a beautiful manner to culminate the Rasa.
The Play is prescribed for the students persuing various courses such as, Shastri 3rd year MSP, Acharya Bridge MSP and Chittoor Vidyabhushana (sixth level).
