1. What is this course?
शुद्धिकौमुदी is a course based on a book of the same name published by Samskrita Bharati.
In this course, you will learn about the common mistakes that occur during speaking or writing Samskrita, and more importantly, learn the grammatical concepts and tips that will help you avoid such errors.
Going through this course will help you improve not only your hold over the Samskrita language, but also your confidence in speaking Samskrita

3.Will we learn examples?
Yes. The course will have lots and lots of examples from daily usage. Focus is more on practical application than theory.
4. Will there be any exercise/homework for me to do?
Yes. Each class will have some explanation and lots of practice. You will also get some exercises for working out by yourself. By participating in both the in-class activities and the homework, you will make huge progress in your language learning.
5. Will we learn sandhis and samaasas (or any other concepts) in detail?
No. This course will not teach you any grammatical concept from the basics. This will help you to understand better, and apply the concepts that you have learnt already to make sure that your usage is correct.
1. When are the classes?
First class will be on Saturday, 15th March 2017.
After that, classes will be held Every Saturday, between 9.00 PM and 10.00 PM IST
2. For how long is this course?
Approximately 8 months/30 classes. The number of classes may vary slightly depending on the interest and participation from students.
3. What if I cannot attend classes at that time?
After each class, a video recording of the class, along with all the notes and exercises will be uploaded in our portal. You can follow the uploaded lessons at any time convenient to you. You can also email us with your doubts or questions, if any.
Participating in the live classes will give you the additional opportunity to interact with the teacher and other students.
4. Is attendance compulsory? What if I miss a class in the middle of the course?
In the interest of your own learning, it is advisable for you to participate in the webinars with the same punctuality and regularity as you would attend a face-to-face course. However, if you have to miss some classes due to unavoidable circumstances, please inform the teacher by email in advance. You can catch up with the class using the uploaded materials.
5. I came to know of this course late, and a few classes have already happened? What do I do?
Please catch up with the classes that have already happened with the help of our materials. You can then start attending the live webinars.
1. Is this course for me?
This course is for you if you are
- a student of Samskrita who knows to read, write and speak the language, and are familiar with the basics of grammar such as sandhi, samaasa, subanta, tinanta, linga, vibhakti, etc.
- a student preparing for examinations in Samskrita beyond the high-school level, or for examinations conducted by various Samskrita organisations.
- a teacher looking to implement Sanskrit-through-Sanskrit teaching, and want to gain confidence with using Samskrita.
- a Samskrita enthusiast looking forward to take your Samskrita knowledge to the next level
2. I don’t know to read and write Samskrita. Can I attend this course?
All the slides and exercises will be almost exclusively in Samskrita. Hence, we would advise you to join one of our other courses to pick up these basic skills before attempting this course. Our Learn Sanskrit – Level 1 course will give you a very good grounding in the basics of Samskrita. You should also attend the other basic courses on Vibhakti, Kridantas, etc before attempting this course.
3. I cannot speak Samskrita. Can I attend this course?
It is enough if you can understand basic spoken Samskrita. By the end of the course, you will be speaking Samskrita yourself. You will pick up the language naturally by listening and participating in the exercises.
4. Is there any other course that I can attend before taking up this course?
Yes. Please attend the courses of our Sentence Construction Series – Level 1 – Vibhakti and Level 2 – Kridantas. You can also try out our Vocabulary 1 and Vocabulary 2 courses to build your word-power in Samskrita.
1. How will the classes be conducted?
These will be virtual classes, conducted through a tool called Gotowebinar.

Technical requirements for attending the webinar – Any computer/laptop/Smartphone. Earphones/Headphones with mic.

2. What will be the language used in the classes?
It will be 95% Samskrita. It is the experience of many of our students that their Samskrita knowledge has improved significantly simply by listening and absorbing the Samskrita atmosphere in the class. You will also be encouraged to express yourself in Samskrita as much as possible. In some rare cases, for assisting understanding, additional English explanations will be used.
3. What is the fee for this course?
This course is absolutely free! The only things you will need to invest is your interest and commitment to attend the classes regularly and participate in the activities.
4. Will I get a certificate for this course?
Yes. You can opt for an examination at the end of the course if you want a certificate. The exam will have both oral and written components. On successful completion of the exam, you will get a course-completion certificate from Vyoma Linguistic Labs Foundation. [Note that your attendance in live classes and participation in class activities will also count as a part of the course-assessment.]
The dates and pattern of examination will be announced by the teacher at the end of the course.
This course is taught by Vid. Udayana Hegde (PhD, Vidvat – Vyakarana, Acharya – Navya Nyaya). He has been associated with the Speak Sanskrit movement of Samskrita Bharati since his childhood, and has experience in conducting Sambhashana Shibiras, teachers’ training programmes, teaching students at the UG and PG levels.

You can attend the classes even without the book. The major aspects to be discussed in class will be covered in the presentation.
