Samaasas – Compound Words in Sanskrit
Samaasa (The science of compound words) is one of the most important concepts of Sanskrit Grammar, because most Sanskrit sentences and shlokas contain compound words abundantly. Long-Samaasas with multiple words joined together are a unique feature of Sanskrit language, and it is difficult to study and understand any Sanskrit text – verse or prose – without knowing Samaasas.
Samaasas are also challenging because there are many types and sub-types, multiple rules governing the creation of each samaasa, special modifications in words when they form part of a samaasa, etc.
This course attempts to introduce the basic principles of Samaasas and the major types of Samaasas, with more focus on understanding popularly used Samastapadas.
The course consists of recordings from webinars which were delivered as a part of the Kovida-Course (Preparatory course for 4th level of Patrachara Samskritam Exams).
