Sharada script is an writing system based on Brahmic family of scripts and was well flourished in Northern India especially Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab in 13th century AD. Sharada texts have been widely found in Afghanistan; The Sharada inscriptions all seem to date to the 8th century CE.
Even now the scripts which are well known like Gurumukhi, Takri are derived from Sharada script.
It is believed that there is a good haul of Sharada manuscripts in several places in the country like Nalanda, Hoshiarpur, Madurai, Chennai and Mysore, and in Nepal. There are thousands of manuscripts in various Libraries in India written in Sharada . The Lipi was the mother Lipi in native Kashmir. The course was very effective in 1. Keeping the participants involved and interactive. 2. Ensuring that the usefulness of the Lipi is understood and how the knowledge could be applied for jointly working towards not only reviving the Lipi but also tapping the huge repertoire of manuscripts to better understand the history and cultural heritage of India.

Although this course was meant for getting familiar to Sharada scripts, it went beyond the state objectives. This course, helped me not only to help me read manuscripts written in Sharada script, but it also taught me a way in which I can learn other scripts methodically. There are unread manuscripts in several ancient scripts, hiding our history. If we take it upon us to read them and share the information, it will be a good contribution to our ancient historical discovery. Thank you Vyoma team for this excellent, altruistic course.
