किरातार्जुनीयम् (सर्गः ०२)
Kirātārjunīyam – 2nd Canto
This is a Video Lecture course in Tamil on the second canto of the epic of Kiratarjuniyam.
About the Course
Kiratarjuniyam is one of the five mahakavyas or great epics of the classical Samskrita literature. Bharavi, author of this kavya, is famous for the depth of meaning (अर्थ-गौरवम्). In these video lectures, Ms. Visalakshi Sankaran explains the kavya in simple Tamil.
The Kiratarjuniyam is a Mahakavya and is named after its chief incident, viz. the fight between Siva under the guise of a Kirata or Mountaineer and Arjuna. It is one of the most vigorous and spirited poems in the Sanskrit language. Mallinatha has composed his style to a coconut, which has
to be broken before one can get at the sweet kernel within. It was once a prevalent opinion among Pandits that Bharavi’s chief merit lay in the profundity of thought.
