This is a popular saying which highlights the importance of studying Paninian Grammar. A basic knowledge of grammar is essential for all students who wish to study any literature or shaastra in Sanskrit. Bhattoji Dikshita’s monumental work, Vaiyakarana Siddhanta Kaumudi, is one of the foundational texts of Vyakarana, where all the sutras of the Ashtadhyayi are discussed with explanation and examples. It is a reordering of the sutras of Ashtadhyayi to facilitate a student to pick up rupasiddhi (derivation of forms) easily. Kaumudi is also known for the exactness of its Vriitti-s (sutrartha), which distills the essence of Mahabhashya succinctly.

Ajanta Napumsakalinga prakarana of Siddhantakaumudi is taught in this course. 14 sutras of Ashtadhyayi and 3 vartikas are covered following the Siddhanta kaumudi text with reference to Balamanorama Commentary.
This prakarana sheds light on the forming of a neuter gender word from a vowel ending Praatipadika. Concepts like पुंवद्भाव and सर्वनामस्थान are also elaborated in this prakarana. Deals with some special Praatipadikaas and the process of forming Padas by joining Pratipadika and Sup-pratyayas. Modifications through which a Pratipadika should undergo to become a Pada is the main content of this course.
