Description

Learn to Chant Ashtadhyayi

A webinar course to learn to chant the Aṣṭādhyāyī of Pāṇini with accurate pronunciation. In this course, students will be trained to learn the sūtras of the Aṣṭādhyāyī correctly and recite them from memory.

Key Benefits

  •  All 8 chapters will be covered.
  •  Special Focus on memorisation.
  •  Live interaction and feedback from a trained teacher.
  • Enhancement in memory, focus and concentration.
  • Increase in Linguistic capabilities.

Background

“अष्टाध्यायी जगन्माता अमरकोशो जगत्पिता” (Aṣṭādhyāyī is the mother of the world, and Amarakośa is the father) is a popular saying. Aṣṭādhyāyī and Amarakośa are extremely useful tools for those who wish to gain a mastery of Sanskrit language and the śāstras. In olden times, it was a common practice to teach children to memorise these two texts at a very young age, even before formal learning began. Equipped with these fixed in memory, as they studied the language and śāstras, the children learnt to apply the sūtras easily, and also had a phenomenal vocabulary.

This practice of memorisation has lost importance in recent times, due to various reasons. Vyoma Labs is attempting to revive the method of regular oral learning and memorisation through various courses such as Daily chants, Gita chanting, etc. As a part of that effort, this course will train the students to memorise and recite the Aṣṭādhyāyī sūtras from memory. This course will be useful to students who are studying, or would like to study Pāṇinian vyākaraṇa at any level.

Important Note – This course will not cover the meanings of the sūtras or their application. For learning the meaning of sūtras, you can refer to other courses in our pāṭhaśālā, such as Aṣṭādhyāyīpraveśa.

The course is meant for:

Children, Students who are committed to learning and memorising the Aṣṭādhyāyī. Interested learners of other age groups are also welcome.

Schedule of Classes – Every Weekday (Monday to Friday), 5:00 PM to 5:25 PM IST.

Start Date – 18 Nov 2019

Certificate –

An oral examination will be conducted at the end of the course. Interested students can take up the exams and get a certificate if they are successful.

Is this class for me?

1. Who is this course meant for?

The course is meant for all who want to learn chanting the Aṣṭādhyāyī sūtras in an authentic way, and for those who want to memorise the Aṣṭādhyāyī.

2. I want to learn specific chapters for a competition. Will that be taught to me?

This course will cover the chapters of the Aṣṭādhyāyī in order, starting from Chapter 1. You can join the class and learn the portions in the order taught there.

If you want specific, personalised coaching for any competitions, please write to us at support@vyomalabs.in to know about our paid one-on-one courses.

3. Will I get individual attention from the teacher?

The teacher will teach the sūtras, and select a few students to repeat the sūtras as he teaches. Others are expected to repeat along with these students and learn. There will be opportunities to ask if you have any questions/doubts.

In every class, students will also be given a chance to recite previously taught sūtras. In case there are many students taking part, the teacher will try to ensure that all students get a chance in order. If, due to time constraints, all students cannot be accommodated in a single class, they may be given an opportunity to chant in the next few classes.

4. Will the course ensure that I memorise all the sūtras of the Aṣṭādhyāyī?

By the grace of Bhagavān, the teacher will try to teach all the sūtras of the Aṣṭādhyāyī, and will provide periodic feedback on your pronunciation if you volunteer to take part in chanting verses during the class. Main focus of the class will be on ensuring good pronunciation. If you participate in all classroom activities and practice diligently after each class, you will be able to chant the sūtras without mistakes. Memorising the sūtras will depend on your own effort.
